The following Frequently Asked Questions give you the additional information required to decide what shape you would like your activity programme to take.
How much do activities cost?
Currently each activity session is costed separately to account for the groups specific requirements i.e. transport, food, equipment etc. so once we know what you would like to do we will provide you with a tailored cost. BAC is a not for profit organisation, so we aim to cover the direct costs of the session but also want to ensure that our activities are accessible for groups on a tight budget!
Are the activities high risk?
We complete thorough risk assessments for all our activities and our staff team is qualified for the activities that they deliver. We also have the appropriate insurances in place for all our work. However we believe that is important for our clients that activities are challenging and exciting, but at all times the risk is controlled.
What are 'team building activities'?
We offer a range of activities that support our client groups in developing good working practices together, from low level mental challenges to high adrenaline and fun sharing experiences. Our excellent staff team are equipped to draw out the necessary learning from each activity.
How many people should be in a group?
Group numbers vary and we run activities to suit groups of all sizes from skills training for 1 or 2 to mass group activities for 50 to 200 and everything in between. If you wish a large group to stay together for their activities then talk to our co-ordinator about suitable challenges.
Do we do birthday parties?
BAC is a personal development charity and our programmes are designed to deliver meaningful experiences to the participants. Birthday parties are not a priority for the centre but we can on occasion, if availability allows, design a day to aid with our fundraising.
How long are sessions?
Generally sessions last for 3 hours to include time for gear issue and return, however if you groups requires a longer or shorter session length, have a chat with us!
What do I need to bring on an activity day?
The gear that you need will depend on the activity that you are doing. When you agree the programme with our staff, you should be sent a participants’ instruction sheet which will tell them exactly what they need for the day. BAC can provide refreshments on demand, but to keep the costs down, many groups opt for participants bringing a packed lunch!
What do I need to wear on an activity day?
On a general activity day you are best to wear comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear. Training shoes are fine. Better not to wear jeans as they drain heat away from the body when wet.
Will I get wet?
Never say never! The Centre is in Belfastand it has been known to rain here. You have the choice of wet or dry sessions and the Centre can provide a full waterproof outer layer, this however is no guarantee that your group members will want you to remain dry.
Can we do water based activities in the winter?
Yes! Don’t let the cold weather put you off! Canoeing, Kayaking, wet caving and bouldering are all activities that can be offered year round.
Can we do activities off site?
Of course we can. Transport can be provided at an extra cost.
Do we have residential facilities?
We do not have residential facilities on site. We do however have tents to accommodate over 50 people under canvas.
Can we do evening sessions?
Yes we can. We work a three session day, morning, afternoon and evening sessions. Evening sessions need to be booked well in advance so that staff can be arranged. Just remember that in the winter the nights are longer, so unless the activities are based under the floodlit areas of BAC’sAdventure Learning Park, then it may be darker for activites.
What age are the activities suitable for?
Our primary aim is at those within the 14 - 25 age range. However we are keen to accommodate those of all ages for specific activity sessions. We just always ensure that tiny people can fit into the appropriate safety equipment such as harnesses and helmets.
