Frequently asked questions

How much do activities cost?

The cost for each activity session is dependant upon the number of activity instructors required to safely meet your specific group numbers and any specific or special needs i.e. group size, ratio of instructors to participants for the chosen activity, transport, food, equipment etc. Full costs will be provided on request after a short discussion to clarify your group requirements. BAC is a Charitable not for profit organisation with prices structured to cover direct operating costs of the session but competitively positioned to ensure that our activities are accessible for groups on a tight budget!

Are the activities high risk?

All activities delivered by BAC are risk assessed by appropriately qualified and experienced activity instructors. Public indemnity insurance is provided for all activities delivered by BAC. However, every outdoor activity carries some element of risk but BAC is committed to minimizing and controlling risk whilst still ensuring that all activities are challenging and exciting but safe at all times for our client groups.

What are 'team building' activities'?

BAC offers a range of activities that support client groups to help develop good working practices together, from low level mentally stimulating challenges to high adrenaline and fun sharing experiences. The staff team are exceptionally experienced and qualified to draw out the necessary learning from each activity.

How many people should be in a group?

Group numbers vary but BAC provides activities to suit variable group sizes to facilitate skills development training for small group numbers through to large group activities for 50 to 200+ participants. If you have large group numbers and would like to stay together for activities, please talk to our co-ordinator about activity challenges that are most suitable to meet your needs and expectations.

How long are sessions?

Generally sessions last for 3 hours to include time for issuing and returning the activity gear and equipment, however, if your group requires a longer or shorter session length, have a chat with our client support team.

Does BAC accommodate birthday parties?

BAC is a personal development charity and our core programmes are designed to deliver meaningful experiences to the participants. Although birthday parties are not a charitable priority BAC can on occasion, if availability allows, design an activity session to offer young people a memorable adventure learning opportunity and to assist with our fundraising to support our continuing longer term Charitable programmes.

What do I need to wear on an activity day?

On a general activity day you are best to wear comfortable clothing and secure footwear such as training shoes. Please avoid sandals or flip flops. It is recommended that you avoid denim/jeans they tend to drain body heat when wet.

Will I get wet?

It is the outdoors so no guarantee to remain dry at all times can be provided! BAC can provide wet weather outer clothing however this offers no absolute guarantee that your group members will remain dry on all occasions.

Can we do water based activities in the winter?

Yes! Don’t let the cold weather put you off! Canoeing, Kayaking and wet caving are all activities that can be offered year round.

Can BAC offer activities off site?

BAC has a mobile adventure learning team that can offer almost all activities offered through the Belfast Adventure Learning Park.

Can BAC help with transport?

BAC has a limited fleet of mini buses that are primarily for supporting BAC core and longer term programmes. However, if capacity is available these buses can be hired or BAC can help through their contracts with Community Transport organisations. Please ask our client support team for more details.

Does BAC have residential facilities?

BAC does not have residential facilities on site in Belfast but through a partnership agreement BAC can support your residential or camping needs through Ardaluin Residential Outdoor Centre in Newcastle, Co. Down. BAC can accommodate up to 40 people including leaders at Ardaluin House and up to 50 people under canvas at Ardaluin or through other approved camping sites.

Can BAC offer evening and/or weekend activity sessions?

BAC operates on a three session day (morning, afternoon and evening) over a 7 day working week. Larger group evening and week end (Saturday/Sunday) sessions should be booked at least 4 – 6 weeks in advance to ensure that additional staff can be scheduled. Remember in the winter the nights start earlier so unless the activities are based under the floodlit areas of BAC’s Adventure Learning Park, it may be darker for some activities ie. mountain biking, paddling etc.

From what age are the activities at BAC suitable?

BAC’s core work is aimed at young people between 12 - 25 years. However BAC is keen to accommodate all ages and has invested in the personal and safety equipment (ie. helmets and harnesses) necessary to facilitate both younger participants from 5 years – 11 years and adults beyond 25 years of age including programmes for older adults 50 years + upon request. y sessions.
