School Support
Since 1998 the Belfast Activity Centre has expanded it's work to assist schools wishing to develop their use of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the International Award for Youth. As these programmes have become more popular with students and are widely recognised by universities and employers, schools have either been expanding their existing use of the programmes or indeed initiating the Awards for the first time.
The problems faced by schools include:
- A lack of knowledge about the Awards
- The cost of expensive equipment
- A lack of transport
- A lack of trained staff
- Fears about safety of their young people.
- Larger numbers of young people wishing to participate
The Belfast Activity centre now provides a range of services which can help schools to overcome these problems. The centre has been in existence as a charity for over ten years now and has for some time been providing the services, skills and resources to both support and develop the Award Programme in your school.
The Centre has at your disposal:-
- A wealth of knowledge about the Award Programme
- A highly qualified staff team
- Equipment resources including safety equipment
- Transport for up to 42 people
- A radio communication system
- A number of training courses which would aid the development of your key staff.
- An exemplary health and safety record.
The staff of the Belfast Activity Centre will be happy to look at a support package specific to the needs of your school. These will be costed out to the school which may use a variety of means to cover these costs. We are happy to give advice on costs passed to young people and we also provide some fundraising activities to support the young people. The centre may from time to time be in the position that we can advise you on potential funding sources to assist with these costs. As the centre is a non profit making organisation all costs will be kept to a minimum.
If you would like to discuss the needs of your school please contact the centre on 028 9060 0132.
